TRAVERSE CITY — The Peninsula Community Library will celebrate World Migratory Bird Day with a program by Rebecca Lessard and birds of prey from Wings of Wonder.

BELLAIRE — The first in a series of “Mushroom Forays” will be offered Saturday, May 11, at Grass River Natural Area, 6500 Alden Highway. The focus will be on morels.

OMENA — Saving Birds Thru Habitat will sponsor a birding hike at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, starting at the Habitat Discovery Center, 5020 N. Putnam Road.

Back Porch music
CHARLEVOIX — The last Back Porch Coffeehouse of the season will feature northern Michigan-based jazz ensemble Unfourgettable.

TRAVERSE CITY — Artcenter Traverse City and Michigan State University will present an evening with The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum on Monday, May 13, at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St.
Alison Gass, curator of Contemporary Art at the museum, will discuss the museum that opened in 2012 and the art. Her 7:30 p.m. program includes a series of images of the museum architecture, the permanent and historical collection, and current and planned programming.

GRAYLING — The Sweet Adelines will give a free concert at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center, 308 Lawndale.

TRAVERSE CITY — Vocal students of Jayne Sleder and a 2013 Musicale scholarship winner will perform at the Thursday, May 16, Grand Traverse Musicale program.
The program starts at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Road. The performance is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
GLEN ARBOR — The Glen Arbor Art Association will host nine artists in a series of two-week residencies from May through October.
The first artist-in-residence is Janice Dumas, a watercolor artist from Milford. She will discuss her experiences and work from her residency at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Glen Arbor Art Association, 6031 S. Lake St. The program is free and open to the public.
TRAVERSE CITY — Pageturners, Peninsula Community Library’s book group, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, to discuss Tan Twan Eng’s “The Gift of Rain.”

TRAVERSE CITY — The Village at Bay Ridge Speakers Series luncheon on Monday, May 20, will feature Missy Carson-Smith and her gun safety initiative titled “Gun Safe Mom: Unlock the Conversation.”

AAUW book sale
TRAVERSE CITY -— The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will hold its annual book sale at the History Center of Traverse City, 322 Sixth St.

Learn to Fly Day
TRAVERSE CITY — Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 234 and Giving Wings Aviation, LLC, will host an Eagle Flight event Saturday, May 18, as part of International Learn to Fly Day.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at 1170 Airport Access Road. There will be free Eagle flights to registered adults 21 and older, and displays of aircraft, an experimental aircraft building project and the Lazair ultralight. Food and beverages will be available.
