Wings of Wonder

TRAVERSE CITY — The Peninsula Community Library will celebrate World Migratory Bird Day with a program by Rebecca Lessard and birds of prey from Wings of Wonder.

Mushroom forays

BELLAIRE — The first in a series of “Mushroom Forays” will be offered Saturday, May 11, at Grass River Natural Area, 6500 Alden Highway. The focus will be on morels.

Each session is from 9:30 a.m. to noon and starts with a skills “brush up.” The cost is $5 per class or $20 for the series. Registration is required; call 533-8314 or visit

Birding hike

OMENA — Saving Birds Thru Habitat will sponsor a birding hike at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, starting at the Habitat Discovery Center, 5020 N. Putnam Road.

The hike will focus on early arriving breeding birds and those that are migrating through the area. For details, call 271-3738.

Back Porch music

CHARLEVOIX — The last Back Porch Coffeehouse of the season will feature northern Michigan-based jazz ensemble Unfourgettable.

The group will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Charlevoix Senior Center Building. A circle jam will follow. A $5 to $10 donation is suggested. For details, call 622-2944.

Art lecture

TRAVERSE CITY — Artcenter Traverse City and Michigan State University will present an evening with The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum on Monday, May 13, at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St.

Alison Gass, curator of Contemporary Art at the museum, will discuss the museum that opened in 2012 and the art. Her 7:30 p.m. program includes a series of images of the museum architecture, the permanent and historical collection, and current and planned programming.
