‘Tails to Trails’

TRAVERSE CITY — “Tails to Trails,” a 5K on the Vasa Pathway for dogs and their owners, will be held Saturday, May 18.

The event starts at 9 a.m. at the Vasa Pathway trailhead on Bartlett Road off Bunker Hill Road. Registration will open at 8 a.m. Advance registration is $15 per person or $25 for families through Friday, May 17. Registration on the day of the event is $20 per person; $30 per family. Golf for schools

MANCELONA — The Mancelona Rotary Club and Communities in Schools of Mancelona will sponsor an Ironmen Golf Scramble.

The fundraiser will be held Saturday, May 18, at Deer Run Golf Club-Lakes of the North, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The fee is $200 for a four-person team. For details or to register, call 587-5044.

Writing contest

KINGSLEY — Entries for the Floyd Milton Webster Prize for History writing contest will be accepted until Tuesday, May 21.

The contest is open to anyone who has a story to tell about Kingsley area history or their Kingsley area family. A $1,000 cash award will be presented to one winner 19 years old or older; $500 to the winner who is 18 or younger. Awards will be announced at a ceremony from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 22, at the Kingsley Library, 213 S. Brownson.

Youth programs

SUTTONS BAY — Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA) is recruiting high school-aged young men and women to serve as crew and scientists this summer aboard the Schoolship Inland Seas.

The Young Men in Science trip will take place on August 15-16. It begins in Petoskey and ends in Suttons Bay. The Young Women in Science trip June 17-18 and August 1-2 will begin and end in Suttons Bay and the trip on July 14-15 will begin and end in Fayette.
