Art exhibit opens
Frankfort — Frankfort artist Linda Remington (aka Remi) will exhibit her art at West Michigan Bank & Trust. A reception for the artist will be hosted 4 to 6 p.m. today, Oct. 26, at the bank, 501 Main St., where the exhibit may be viewed through Feb. 13. Call 352-9655 for more information.
Traverse City — For 25 years the Dogman legend has captivated northern Michigan residents and now the History Center of Traverse City, 322 Sixth St., will offer haunted "Nights at the Museum" featuring the Dogman.
Starting today, Oct. 26, and continuing through Halloween, visitors can test their bravery in the Haunted Museum and view the "Dogman" movie. Also on exhibit is special guest, Mumford, the mummified squirrel. Students from Traverse City Central High School will provide energy to the hauntings and are raising money for the Choral European Trip.
Nightly, younger children and families can enjoy the exhibit with "lights-on" from 4 to 6 p.m. and then individuals 12 and older can face their fears from 6 to 10 p.m. The Dogman music video and movie will be aired nightly at 8 p.m. and at 10 p.m. on the weekend. The cost is $5 for either the museum or movie event.
Frankfort — The Oliver Art Center will host a Halloween Costume Party today, Oct. 26.
The celebration starts at 6 p.m. at the art center, 132 Coast Guard Road. Costumes are optional, but masks are required. Tickets are $30 at the door. For details or tickets, call 352-4151.
Traverse City — Acoustic Dynamite will lead a free Beatles Sing-Along from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight, Oct. 26, during happy hour at InsideOut Gallery, 229 Garland St. All ages are welcome.
Haunting good time
Traverse City — The State Theatre, 233 E. Front St., will celebrate Halloween on Sunday, Oct. 28, with a free family party, haunted basement tours and a screening of the silent film "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."
The Family Halloween Party will be from 1 to 3 p.m. with treats, activities, Halloween cartoons and haunted basement tours for those who dare.
"Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" starring John Barrymore will be shown at 4 p.m. with live organ accompaniment by Redford and Fox Theater organist Tony O'Brien. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $8 for State Theatre members, seniors and students.
