Red Cross specials

Traverse City — The American Red Cross is offering special offers on training classes and health and safety products through Jan. 31.

Beulah — Art students in Corey Bechler's class at Benzie Central High School are featured at L'Chayim Delicatessen through December.

Authors sign books

Traverse City — Four authors will sign books this weekend at Horizon Books.

Book signings Dec. 15, include Evelyn Johnson, author of "Grama's Gift" from noon to 2 p.m.; Steven Huyser-Honig, author of "The Michigan You Love" from 2 to 4 p.m.; and Mary Clifton, author of "Waist Away," 4 to 6 p.m.

Karl Manke, author of "The Prodigal Son," will sign his book from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16. He also will be on the Ron Jolly Show at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, and then visit with patrons at the book store from about 10 a.m. to noon.

Firefighter toy drive

Traverse City — The Traverse City Firefighters Local 646 is continuing a more than 50-year tradition by collecting toys for children in the Grand Traverse area, who might not otherwise find anything under the Christmas tree.

New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at Traverse City fire stations at 500 W. Front St. or 1313 E. Eighth St. The community is invited to join the firefighters at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, to help sort and wrap toys. Lunch will be provided. Call 922-4930, ext. 8, to learn more.

Community dinner

Traverse City — Donations of time, food and funds still are needed to help make the Community Meals Program Community Christmas dinner a success.

The meal will be served from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1003 S. Maple St., Meal delivery will start at 11:15 a.m. and should be arranged in advance.

Holiday worship

Traverse City — The congregation at Old Mission Congregational Church, 18687 Mission Road, invites the community to worship with them at 5 p.m. Christmas Eve, Dec. 24. The service will feature special music, carols, readings, candles and more.

New pastor installed

Onekama — The United Congregational Church of Onekama announces that the Reverend William Morris has recently been installed as the church's new pastor.

The Rev. Morris was ordained with a master of divinity degree from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Mich., and brings 24 years of ministry experience to the congregation He has served as pastor of Bethany Reformed and Greenwood Reformed churches in Kalamazoo and the Moddersville Reformed Church in Falmouth, Mich. For the past 14 years, the Rev. Morris has been pastor of Clarksville Community Church, Clarksville, N.Y. In 2011, he published a book titled "Stories From Potowasso: Morality Tales From a Small Town," a collection of short stories about growing up in a small Michigan town. It won the iUniverse Editor's Choice Award for Short Stories in 2011.
