Homebuyer ed

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency (NMCAA), a certified HUD housing counseling agency, will present a Homebuyer Education workshop.

Family Science Day

SUTTONS BAY — The Inland Seas Education Association’s Family Science Day on Friday, Aug. 9, will focus on crayfish.

The program will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at ISEA’s Education Center, 100 Dame St. It is geared toward children ages 5 to 12. The cost is $5 per child. Call Taryn Carew, 271-3077, for details or to register.

Open house for vets

FRANKFORT — The newly formed Benzie County Veterans Affairs Committee will host an open house for all Benzie County veterans and their families on Saturday, August 10.

The open house will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the American Legion hall, 206 Main St., with a short program at 10 a.m. by the county’s veterans affairs counselor. Anyone wishing to speak with the counselor or schedule an appointment should bring proper identification and a copy of their DD214. For details, call 645-1187.

Country dance

CADILLAC — An old-time country dance on Saturday, Aug. 10, will feature music by the Fonda Starr Band for dancing in air-conditioned comfort.

The dance will be hosted from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 9116 E. 13th St. Free dance instruction will be provided. Donations are appreciated and listeners are welcome. For details, call 920-8389.

Native language camp

PESHAWBESTOWN — A Family Anishinaabemowin (Native Language and Culture) Camp will be offered Monday, Aug. 12, through Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Camp will open at 8 a.m. Monday and continues through 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Powwow grounds in Peshawbestown. Everyone is welcome and registration, camping, breakfast, lunch and dinner are free.
