LELAND — The Rev. Virginia Heller, the new pastor of Leland United Methodist Church, will preach her first sermon there on Sunday, July 7.
"Pastor Gini" attended Calvin Seminary in Grand Rapids and graduated from Garrett Seminary in 1997. She has served at churches in Muskegon, Keeler/Silver Creek, and Bellevue. Her last assignment was associate pastor at Portage Chapel Hill Methodist Church, Portage, Mich.
The Rev. Heller will preach at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services. The Rev. Jack Stewart will preach at 9:30 a.m. The church is located at 106 N. 4th St.
Music at the lighthouse
NORTHPORT — An ensemble from Interlochen will give a free concert today, July 6, on the lawn at the Grand Traverse Lighthouse, located inside Leelanau State Park, north of Northport.

TRAVERSE CITY — Jim Olson, environmental attorney and a founder of FLOW (For the Love of Water), will speak about the problems facing the Great Lakes Basin on Sunday, July 7.

TRAVERSE CITY — More than 100 local sixth through 12th grade students from the SEEDS School of Rock music camp and professional artists from the Earthwork Collective will give a grand finale performance on Thursday, July 11.
