German Club

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City German Speaker’s Club will hold its monthly Stammtisch at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at The Filling Station Microbrewery at the Depot, Woodmere Avenue and East Eighth Street. Anyone who speaks or wants to speak German is welcome. Membership is free.

Protection workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — Self-defense expert and police officer Preston Taylor will lead a personal protection workshop for teen-age and adult women.

The workshop will start at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Peninsula Community Library, 2699 Island View Road. There is no charge, but space is limited and registration is requested. Family Science Day

SUTTONS BAY — Inland Seas Education Association’s Family Science Day on Friday, Aug. 23, will be based on Holling Clancy Holling’s book “Paddle to the Sea.”

The program will meet from 10 a.m. to noon at the ISEA, 100 Dame St., and is geared toward children ages 5 to 12. Participants will create a canoe with a passenger while learning why canoes float.

Museum shares

MESICK — The Mesick Area Historical Museum invites the public to view the many historical items in its collection from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24.

The museum is located at 117 Mesick Ave and admission is free. For details, visit www.mesickmuseum.com.

Registration

SCOTTVILLE — Registration for fall semester classes at West Shore Community College is open to both returning and new students.

The fall semester starts Wednesday, Sept. 4. Students interested in registering for classes or who have questions about the application and enrollment process at WSCC can call the Student Services Office, 843-5946. The winter semester class schedule is available at www.westshore.edu.

Baker Online

CADILLAC — Baker College Online has added two new programs.

An educational effectiveness master’s degree and a political science bachelor degree will be offered fall quarter, which starts Thursday, Sept. 26. Registration is under way. For details on either program, contact Baker College Admissions, (800) 469-3165 or www.baker.edu/bakeronline.
