Creative Expo

TRAVERSE CITY — Kidz Art, Drama Kids and Kindermusik will host a Creative Expo for children from 4 to 7:30 p.m. today, May 17, at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St.

Kidz Art activities will take place from 4 to 7 p.m., with Kindermusik classes at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. and Drama Kids classes at 5 and 6:30 p.m. Other activities also are planned and families may sign up for summer camps with one-time-only discounts available.

Belko Peace series

NORTHPORT — Grand Medicine Chief of the Three Fires Midewiwin Lodge, Anishnabek Grand Chief Edward Benton-Banai will be the guest speaker at the Belko Peace Lecture Series on Saturday, May 18.

Chief Banai is Dean of Shingwaluk Kinoomaage Gamig of Algoma University in Canada, which he founded. He will share his thoughts on the Mediwiwin Lodge and spirituality at 3 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ,103 N. Warren St. A questions and answer session and a meal will follow. The community is welcome.

Native plant sale

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse Conservation District will hold its annual Native Plant Sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Boardman River Nature Center, 1450 Cass Road. More than 40 species will be available to purchase, along with upcycled rain barrels. For details, visit

Pet supply drive

GRAWN — Menards home improvement store, 4155 U.S. 31 South, is serving as a pet donation drop site for Cherryland Humane Society in observance of May as National Pet Month. New and unwrapped pet supplies may be donated at a drop box near the Menards exit door through May 31.
