Randie Clawson, a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Traverse City and volunteer in missions with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, is serving for three months through the World Council of Churches in Israel. Clawson will be active with the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel coordinated by WCC.

The League of Women Voters Grand Traverse Area was recently recognized by the League of Women Voters of the United States for the significant growth in membership and continued commitment to the community and the mission of the League of Women Voters.

Michigan Blood donors in Antrim and Benzie counties who reached new gallon levels recently are: one gallon — Lon Bargy, David Burlew, Thomas Bush, Alayna Dean, Danielle Hoose, Daniel Meteer, Michael Robinson, Alex Snider, Darin Thies and Wesley Wilcox; two gallons — Eric McQuade; three gallons — Thomas Bishop; five gallons — Jeremy Perry; six gallons — Sheila Atwood and Darlene Paige; seven gallons — Russel Galorneau, Susan Norton and Albert Kremer; and 12 gallons — Howard Collister.

Munson Medical Center’s A4 nursing staff in the Webber Heart Center have received a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

The Beacon Award recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six standards for a healthy work environment. There are just six other hospital nursing units in Michigan that have achieved a Beacon Award for Excellence.

Hettie Molvang, facilitator of the Grand Traverse Area Parkinson’s Support Groups and assistant state director for Parkinson’s Action Network (PAN), attended the PAN Forum in Washington, DC, in February.

Forum topics included updates on Parkinson’s research and new approaches for care of the Parkinsonian. Attendees also spent two full days in one-on-one conversations with legislators to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease, a progressive degenerative neurogenic disease that has no cure.
