Health Fair

SCOTTVILLE — West Shore Community College nursing students will hold a Community Health Promotion Fair today, April 22, to share information on current health issues with the public. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with displays in the Tech Center atrium, Arts & Sciences Center, and the Schoenherr Campus Center.

 

‘Chasing Ice’ film

FRANKFORT — The award-winning film “Chasing Ice” and a program honoring environmental attorney Jim Olson will be hosted Tuesday, April 23, by the Benzie County Democrats to celebrate Earth Day.

The event will be held at the Garden Theater, 301 Main St., A reception at 6:30 p.m. will be followed by an awards program at 7:15 p.m. and the documentary at 8 p.m.

Senior spelling

TRAVERSE CITY — Practice rounds for the Senior Spelling Bee will be held at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave.

Practice will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, April 24-25, for the Senior Spelling Bee, which will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Twin Lakes Park, North Long Lake Road.

Team registration is $5 per person and all proceeds go to the Grand Traverse Regional Spelling Bee winner to help defray travel expenses to Washington, DC. Advance registration is required; call 922-4911 or visit www.tcseniorcenter.com/pwellness.

 

Education forum

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Area Public Schools and the League of Women Voters Grand Traverse Area will host an education forum from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, focusing on Governor Snyder’s education plan and proposed funding changes. It will take place in the West Middle School Little Theater on Silver Lake Road.

 

Kindergarten meets

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Area Public Schools has released dates for Kindergarten Round-up. Incoming kindergarten students and their parents can meet teachers, school nurses, principals and secretaries while completing the enrollment process.
