Program for state retirees

TRAVERSE CITY — State Employees Retirement Association Chapter 14 will sponsor a program for retirees and spouses on how to file for insurance and other benefits when a retiree or spouse dies.

The program starts at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at the Kings Court Clubhouse on LaFranier Road. Douglas Van Orden will discuss SERA-PLUS. Dennis Barnes will talk about planning with family members and Robert Maddox will provide handouts. There will be time for questions and comments.

Summer reading

BENZIE COUNTY — The Benzonia Public Library and the Darcy Library of Beulah will sponsor a summer reading program for children.

“Fizz, Boom, Read” kicks off Saturday, June 14, with a science show. Additional programs include Wings of Wonder on July 19, and the Family Fun Day Finale on Aug. 2. These programs start at 11 a.m. at Benzonia Memorial Park, off Grace Road. The libraries also will be rotating through experiments, puppet shows and take-home crafts. Starting in mid-June, story time will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the Darcy Library, 7238 Commercial St., Beulah; and at 3 p.m. Thursdays at the Benzonia Library, 891 Michigan Ave., Benzonia.

Strawberry Social

WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 5750 Williamsburg Road, will host a Strawberry Social, plus both silent and live auctions on Saturday, June 14.

Strawberry shortcake with homemade biscuits and/or strawberry sundaes will be served from 5-7 p.m. A freewill offering will be accepted. Silent auction bidding opens at 5 p.m. and closes at 7 p.m., when a live auction of themed baskets and other donated items will start. Proceeds benefit the church’s general fund and various community programs.

Antique toys on display

MESICK — Antique toys, books, records and more will be on display from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at the Mesick Area Museum, 117 Mesick Ave. For details, visit
