Northern Notes: Thank you for supporting plant sale

For the past 21 years, I have had the pleasure of reporting on the many good things that happen in this area and the good deeds that people do. Northern Michigan residents are generous with their time and resources and I have never had a problem filling this space each week.

Now it is time to say good-bye as I retire and move on to other pursuits. I will miss having the opportunity to share your good news, but I pass this column into other capable hands. Please continue to let the Record-Eagle know when you have good news to share.

With the help and support of many people who believe that children need a place to plant a seed and watch it grow, the Children’s Garden sale was a success.

Sale organizers would like to thank the following businesses and individuals for their support: Pine Hill Village Gardens, Zimmerman Landscaping, Dobias Landscape & Garden Center, Breeze Hill Greenhouse, Eden Hill Greenhouse, Skegemog Garden, McGough’s, the Traverse Bay Intermediate School District greenhouse, Four Season Nursery, Blue Star Landscaping, Garden Goods, Ace Hardware Acme, Bonnie Plants by Deb Lewis, Mark Askew, Judy and Maxine Wittbrodt and Nancy Dennison.

People who helped with the fundraiser were Kathy Coffin Sheard, Sharma Zollinger and Richard and Susan Kuschell.

April M. Putman, enrichment coordinator at Glen Eagle Retirement Community in Traverse City, wrote on behalf of herself and the residents to thank the community for the generous yarn donations for the residents who work on service projects all year such as Operation Christmas Child and baby hats for Munson Medical Center’s neonatal unit.

“Traverse City Christian Schools took up a collection and brought a great donation to us recently, as well as several other individuals in the Grand Traverse area,” April wrote. “The yarn donations have really helped our knitters keep their hands busy! Thanks again to all of these very generous people.”
