Authors give program

BELLAIRE — The Friends of the Bellaire Library will host Todd and Brad Reed, authors of “Tuesdays with Todd and Brad Reed,” a 2014 Michigan Notable Book.

The father and son photographic team will share stories and sign their book starting at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, at the Bellaire Library. The program is free and open to the public. For details, call the library, 533-8814.

Language class brainstorming

TRAVERSE CITY — Individuals with leadership roles for area mission teams are invited to a brainstorming session to explore the idea of learning to speak Creole as a way to enrich mission trip experiences for mission teams to Haiti.

The short meeting starts at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, in the lounge at Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass St. Attendees will discuss the possibility of a weekly class this fall on Wednesdays. Potential instructor Guyvens Laureus and his wife Corey will be on hand. Laureus is a native of Haiti and a new resident to Traverse City. He met his wife as a result of her mission trips to Haiti.

Trail ribbon cutting for NCT section

MANISTEE — The Grand Traverse Hiking Club, a chapter of the North Country Trail Association, has completed a 13-mile reroute of the North Country National Scenic Trail and will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday, June 7.

The section extends from the Old U.S. 131 State Forest Campground to M-186. The ceremony will start at 10 a.m. at the north end of the U.S. 131 Manistee River Roadside Park. It will be followed by a two-mile hike on the new trail back to the Old U.S. 131 State Forest Campground. The Hiking Club also will host a picnic at 12:30 p.m. at the campground near the canoe landing. The public is invited.

‘Show off Your Ride’ scheduled

CENTRAL LAKE — Early registration closes Saturday, June 7, for the Central Lake “Show Off Your Ride” classic car, motorcycle, and truck show.
