Book launch open house

TRAVERSE CITY — The community is invited to a book launch party for the release of Patricia Batta’s fifth Marge Christensen mystery.

“How Many Old Ladies Will Die?” is the first book in the mystery series set in Traverse City. The launch party starts at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Traverse Hills Condominiums’ clubhouse on Eastview Drive. For details, call Batta, 932-8626.

‘Power of the Purse’

TRAVERSE CITY — The Goodwill Inn will host a brunch on Saturday, May 10, as a fundraiser for women and families staying at the Goodwill Inn.

The event will be held from 10 a.m.-noon at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St. The doors open at 9:30 a.m. Tickets are $40 and may be purchased at www.goodwillnmi.org/powerofthepurse or at the Goodwill main office, 2279 S. Airport Road.

Mushroom foray

BELLAIRE — Grass River Natural Area will launch a series of Mushroom Forays on Saturday, May 10.

“Morels” is the topic for the first event starting at 9:30 a.m. at the natural area, 6500 Alden Highway. The cost is $5 per person and registration is required. For details or to register, visit www.grassriver.org.

Dance Center concerts

TRAVERSE CITY — The Dance Center of Traverse City will host its 46th annual Concert Series.

On Saturday, May 10, young children’s concerts will start at 9:30 and 11 a.m. and feature students ages 3-6. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

Ovation concerts on Saturday, May 10, feature students ages 6 and older and start at 1 and 6:30 p.m. The Encore Concert will be presented at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 11. Tickets for the Ovation and Encore concerts are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

All concerts will be staged in Milliken Auditorium at the Dennos Museum Center, 1410 College Dr. Tickets are available at the Dance Center, 225 E. 14th St., or by calling 947-6820.
