---- — Leda King has spent countless hours as a volunteer at the Grand Traverse County Senior Center and was recently honored for her efforts with the Presidential Service Lifetime Achievement Award, which is given to volunteers who have contributed more than 4,000 hours to an organization.

The award, established in 2003, is presented by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. It recognizes the valuable contributions volunteers are making in their communities and is a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer work.

King received the award at a recent volunteer event hosted by the Grand Traverse Commission on Aging. She has volunteered at the senior center for nearly 20 years and currently volunteers almost every day in the kitchen, making sure area seniors receive a hot meal.
