Women’s event

BEAR LAKE — Area women are invited to an event today, May 3, at Bear Lake Christian Church, 221 Bear Lake Road.

Lysa Terkeurst via DVD will discuss women and emotions at 10 a.m. She also will offer suggestions on how to turn everything, even emotions, over to Christ. A light lunch will follow the program. No reservations are needed.

Book sale

TRAVERSE CITY — The Friends of the Traverse Area District Library will hold a “Spring Attic Cleanup” book sale today, May 3, featuring 5,000 books from the third floor book storage area.

The sale will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the library, 610 Woodmere Ave. Prices range from $1-$3 for most hardcover books with a broad category of scarce and collectible books and multi-media items. All proceeds benefit library programs. For information about future library book sales, visit


Biblical tour info

TRAVERSE CITY — An informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 6, for individuals interested in the “Walk in the Footsteps of St. Paul” biblical/historical tour.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1003 S. Maple St. The Oct. 15-26 trip will be hosted by the Rev. Dr. Charles Webb of Trinity Lutheran Church. Early childhood presentation

SUTTONS BAY — The League of Women Voters Leelanau County’s Early Childhood Study Group will sponsor a presentation titled “A Great Start for All Children.”

The program starts at noon Wednesday, May 7, at the Leelanau County Government Center, 8527 E. Government Center Dr. Mary Manner will discuss the Great Start Collaborative’s work on the “5 to ONE” project, a rural model for an early childhood system of resources across a five-county service area that includes Leelanau County.
