Pancake meals and silent auction

TRAVERSE CITY — Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1050 Peninsula Dr., will host a pancake dinner/breakfast and silent auction.

The meal will be served after the 5 p.m. service on Saturday, May 3; and at 9:15 and 10:15 a.m., between worship services, on Sunday, May 4. A free-will offering will be collected and silent auction bids will be taken. The auction closes at 10:25 a.m. on Sunday.

Proceeds will be divided between Lutheran Social Services of Michigan and Habitat for Humanity’s Depot building project. The event is sponsored by the Monroe Small Group, which will apply for additional funds from Thrivent Financial.

Pet adopt-a-thon

TRAVERSE CITY — AC Paw Animal Rescue and PetSmart Charities will host a spring adopt-a-thon at PetSmart, 2544 Crossing Circle. Adoption hours are 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 2; 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, May 3; and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, May 4.


Derby event

RAPID CITY — A Kentucky Derby event on Saturday, May 3, will benefit Charity Hill Ranch’s Horses for Heroes Veterans’ Outreach program.

The fundraiser will be held from 1-7 p.m. at the ranch, 5629 Way Road. There will be live and silent auctions starting at 2 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres served until 4 p.m., live entertainment from 4:30-7 p.m., a pig roast dinner at 5 p.m., a 50/50 drawing, and the Kentucky Derby.

The cost is $50 per person, with $40 tax deductible. For details, call 258-5437.


Nuccitelli speaks at Climate Lobby

TRAVERSE CITY — Guest speaker Dana Nuccitelli of will be the guest speaker at the Saturday, May 3, meeting of the Northern Michigan Chapter of Citizens Climate Lobby.

Nuccitelli will discuss the economics of curbing fossil fuel use by conference call at the 12:30 p.m. meeting at the Michigan Land Use Institute, 148 E. Front St., suite 301. The public is welcome.


Scrap TC workshops

TRAVERSE CITY — Scrap TC will offer two fused glass workshops on Saturday, May 3, with glass artist Deb Coburn.
