The theme for the free event is “The Fantastic Frontier.” It will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the TBA Credit Union, 2900 W. South Airport Road. There will be games, prizes, child safety identification, face painting, crafts and lunch. Attendees also can enter to win a gift basket valued at $100 from Oryana Natural Foods Market. To open a savings account during the event, parents should bring Social Security numbers for themselves and their child and their driver’s license.

Zonta salutes women

TRAVERSE CITY — The Zonta Club of Traverse City will host its inaugural “Hats Off to Women” luncheon to celebrate the leadership of women in the community.

The event will be held Wednesday, May 7, at the Hagerty Center, 715 E. Front St. Exhibits open at 11:30 a.m. with lunch and a program at noon. The program features a keynote address by Rabbi Chava Bahle, presentation of Zonta’s Outstanding Woman Leader Award and Young Woman in Public Affairs Award, a raffle, a silent auction and a hat contest.

LWVGTA annual meeting

TRAVERSE CITY — Reservations are due Thursday, May 8, for the League of Women Voters Grand Traverse Area dinner and annual meeting. The public is invited.

The event will be held Friday, May 16, at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club, 1725 S. Union St. A 5:30 p.m. reception and cash bar will be followed by dinner and a program by Tim Skubick, the longest serving member of the state capitol press corps in Michigan history. Skubick has covered Michigan government and politics for 43 years.

May art classes

FRANKFORT — The May line-up of art classes at Oliver Art Center has been released.

Classes include “Still Life — Oil or Pastel” with Mariana Defer-Pfeifer; “Loosen Up with Confidence” watercolor class with Helga Flower; a demonstration of signature pies by Lisa MacHugh, co-owner of the Manitou restaurant; “ Spring Flowers in Watercolor” with Edee Joppich; and “Exploring Watercolor” with Susan Lingg.
