Salon art show

PETOSKEY — Crooked Tree Arts Center will host the Oil Painters of America Juried Salon Show of Traditional Oils this summer.

More than 350 paintings from across the United States, Canada and Mexico will be displayed in a salon-style exhibition at the arts center, 461 E. Mitchell St. The exhibit and art event kicks off with a weekend of activities Thursday through Sunday, June 20-23, with a Sunset Paint Out, lectures, concerts, gallery walks, painting demonstrations, public and private receptions, and two days to preview the art before sales open on Friday, June 21. Many events are free and open to the public and take place at the arts center. The exhibition continues through Aug. 31.

Dinner for 4-H

ELK RAPIDS — The Elk Rapids Lions Club will host a “Real Cowboy Dinner” on Friday and Saturday, June 21-22, prior to the Elk Rapids Rotary Show.

The meal will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. each day in the Elk Rapids High School cafeteria. The cost is $10 per person and proceeds benefit the Backyard Bunch 4-H Club with members from Central Lake, Williamsburg and Kewadin.

ISLAND programs

TRAVERSE CITY — ISLAND will sponsor a program on designing farms and homesteads followed by a walk-about at its Bellaire homestead property.

“Designing Resilient Farms and Homesteads” will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Grace Episcopal Church, 341 Washington St. Presenters are Trevor Newman and Mark Angelini from the ecological design firm Roots to Fruits. A donation of $5 to $25 is suggested, but no one will be turned away.

Newman and Angelini also will lead an evaluation/design oriented walk-about from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at the ISLAND homestead site, 2550 Orchard Hill Road, Bellaire. A $10 to $30 donation is suggested, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
