Summer crafts

BENZONIA — The Benzonia Public Library will offer a series of summer craft classes for adults and children.

The series will open Thursday, June 20, at the library, 891 Michigan Ave., with “Birdhouses From Paperbacks” for adults and “Bird Mobiles” for children ages 7 and older from 1 to 3 p.m. Additional classes will meet in July and August.

Samples of the craft projects are on display at the library. For details or to sign up for a class, call the library, 882-4111.

Genealogy meeting

TRAVERSE CITY — Julie Schopiery will give a program titled “Jens Peterson, Traverse City’s First Licensed Architect” at the Thursday, June 20, meeting of the Grand Traverse Area Genealogical Society.

The group will meet at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3746 Veterans Dr. The public and guests are welcome. Contact Mary Briggs, 946-8017 or briggstcm@charter.net, for details.

Haas Quintet plays

LELAND — The Jeff Haas Quintet will perform Friday, June 21, at the Leland School Performing Arts Center, 200 N. Grand Ave.

The evening begins with an hors d’oeuvre reception and a cash bar from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the newly renovated Leland Lodge, near the Performing Arts Center.

The concert will feature original music and jazz classics by Haas on piano, Detroit bassist Marion Hayden, Ann Arbor drummer Sean Dobbins, Grand Rapids trumpeter Chris Lawrence and Traverse City saxophonist/flutist Laurie Sears.

Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at www.mynorthtickets.com or by calling the Old Art Building, 256-2131. They also will be available at the door.

Stone Circle

KEWADIN — Stone Circle will celebrate 30 years of poetry, storytelling and music around a fire when it opens its season Saturday, June 22.

Gatherings start at 9 p.m. Saturdays through Aug. 31, at 11925 Stone Circle Dr. , hosted by poet/bard Terry Wooten.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and younger.
