Family shuffleboard

TRAVERSE CITY — The Senior Center Network and Comfort Keepers will host the first Family Fun Shuffleboard Night at 6 p.m. tonight, July 23, at the Senior Center, 801 E. Front St. There is no charge and all ages and abilities are welcome. For details, call 922-4911.


Filmstrip fun

TRAVERSE CITY — The East Bay Branch Library will host the eighth annual Filmstrip Festival to celebrate stories presented in the filmstrip format and selected from the children’s collection at the Traverse Area District Library.

Themes are “Tomie dePaola Night” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25, featuring the classic story “Strega Nona” and other stories by the Caldecott Award winner; “Rosie’s Favorites” at 4 p.m. Friday, July 26, with librarian Rosie Flickinger’s favorite filmstrips, plus free popcorn and malted milk balls; and “Classic Folktales” at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, with filmstrips illustrated by Caldecott Award winner Paul Galdone.

Garage sale

TRAVERSE CITY — The residents at the Village at Bay Ridge will hold an indoor garage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, July 26, in the East Building, 3850 Scenic Ridge. For details, call 995-9385.


‘Path to Page’

GLEN ARBOR — Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear will sponsor its annual “Path to Page” workshop with Anne-Marie Oomen. It is for writers at any level, but especially for those interested in creating history-inspired pieces.

Oomen is a local poet, playwright and creative writing instructor at Interlochen Center for the Arts. She will lead the day of hiking and writing from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, July 26, in the Port Oneida Rural Historic District. Participants should meet at the Charles and Hattie Olsen Farm on M-22, north of Glen Arbor.

The $70 cost includes a picnic lunch. Registration is required. Participants should bring a hardcover notebook, their favorite writing utensil, hats, sunglasses, sunblock, water and raingear. For details or to register, visit For details, call 334-7275.
