n Three students from Woodland School, Traverse City, were named local winners in the 44th annual America & Me Essay Contest, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance. The three students, who earned the first, second and third place awards are Emily Andreasson, first, Emmalyne Tarsa, second, and John Reicha, third. Several thousand eighth grade students participated in the 2012-2013 America & Me Essay Contest. The topic of the contest was “My Personal Michigan Hero.”

n On March 15 eighth grade students from Traverse City East Middle School and Traverse City West Middle School competed in the District 3 Michigan History Day Competition held at Traverse City West Middle School. Judges selected presentations to move on to the State Finals Competition to be held at Saginaw Valley State University.
