---- — • Michigan Blood announced that Derek Bailey, MSW, a principal with 7th Legacy Consulting, will join Michigan Blood’s board. Bailey, based in Traverse City, served as the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians Tribal Chairman from 2008-2012. As Tribal Chairman, Bailey also served as a Board Member of the Economic Development Corporation of the Grand Traverse Resort and Casinos, and he was elected Chairman of the Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan, Inc. In 2010, he was appointed by President Obama to the National Advisory Council on Indian Education.
As Principal of 7th Legacy Consulting, Bailey consults with businesses and community leaders on government relations, communications, training, and tribal outreach. He also currently serves as a board member of the Suttons Bay Public Schools Board of Education, the Father Fred Foundation, and Michigan Indian Employment and Training Services; as well as an adjunct professor for Grand Valley State University’s School of Social Work (Master’s Program). He has years of experience as a prevention and substance abuse counselor and family resource specialist.
• The Historic Elk Rapids Town Hall Association’s new board members are Tom Bowes, Kathy Peterson and Tom Shelder.
Bowes is an active member of the HERTHA Building Committee and the Rotary Club of Elk Rapids as well as a registered profession engineer for the State of Michigan.
Peterson is a member of the Elk Rapids Parks & Recreation Commission and Green Elk Rapids Day Committee, and she volunteers at the State Theater and Traverse City Film Festival.
Shelder is a board member of the Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Rotary Club of Elk Rapids (Good Works Committee). He is a Financial Planner at Edward Jones, licensed through FINRA/SEC Series.
