Strawberry social

SOUTH BOARDMAN — East Boardman United Methodist Church will host a Strawberry Social on Friday, June 27.

Strawberry shortcake, ice cream, Sloppy Joes, sandwiches and beverages will be served from 5 to 8p.m. at the church, 2080 Boardman Road. There will also be handmade bazaar items and Rada cutlery for sale.

Chicken BBQ

TRAVERSE CITY — The Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church will hold its annual Chicken BBQ from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 28.

The menu will include grilled chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, homemade desserts, Annie’s cherry whatchamacallit and lemonade and coffee.

Takeouts are available. Free will donations will be accepted. The church is located at 16426 Center Road. For more information, call 223-4393.

Run for Shelter

TRAVERSE CITY — The Run for Shelter 5k Run/Walk to Benefit the Goodwill Inn will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, beginning at Willow Hill Elementary School, 1250 Hill St. Dogs and kids are welcome.

Grass River benefit dance

ALDEN — The Grass River Natural Area will host a benefit dance featuring blues, funk, zydeco and jazz by “Steppin’ In It” from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday, June 28, at Alden Depot Park.

A variety of Short’s Brewing Company Beer, and wine from the Village Market will be available to purchase, along with Coney Island style hotdogs.

Tickets are $15 advance and $18 at the door, children under 12 are free and are now on sale online at www.GrassRiver.org, at Village Market in Rapid City and Elk Rapids or at the Grass River Natural Area Offices in Bellaire.

Bake sale

KALEVA — Kaleva Meats will host a Relay for Life Bake Sale, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 28, sponsored by Kaleva Crusaders and Friends Relay for Life Team. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
