---- — Dolmas demo and tasting

BEULAH — Crystal Crate and Cargo will host a free demo and tasting of Up North Global’s signature product, hand-rolled dolmathes or dolmas from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21. This Middle Eastern delicacy is made with local foraged grape leaves, brown rice, lentils, tomatoes, fresh lemon, mint and other spices.

Marty Pavlock has been making the artisan food items at the Grow Benzie Incubator Kitchen in Benzonia and selling at area farmers markets, including Elberta, Frankfort, Interlochen, and Grow Benzie.

Bret Michaels in concert

TRAVERSE CITY — Former front man for Poison, rock singer Bret Michaels will perform during the Traverse City Summer Concert Series on Thursday, June 26 at the Northwest Michigan Fairgrounds. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets begin at $25 for general admission.

Speaker series continues

BOYNE CITY — The Charlevoix County History Preservation Society will present “The Wolverine-Dilworth Hotel -The History & The Vision” beginning at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 28, at the Boyne District Library Lower Level Community Room at 201 East Main St.

A guided tour of the hotel and an invitation to share memories, pictures, and memorabilia will follow the program. This event is free and open to the public.

Magnet Man at library

KALKASKA — The Kalkaska County Library will host the Magnet Man, Fred Jeffers, as part of their summer reading programming “Fizz, Boom, Read!” at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 2. The library is located at 247 S. Cedar St.

Concert under the pavilion

NORTHPORT — The Village Voices and the Northport Community Band joined by the Northwestern Community College Band will perform beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, July 4 under the pavilion in Marina Park. Fireworks will follow.

Artist exhibit

GLEN ARBOR — Empire painter Craig Weisse will exhibit impressionist images of his shoreline community July 4-10, at Center Gallery, 6023 S. Lake St.

Weisse, a retired physician, has lived in Empire for 25 years. His painting focuses on the area’s natural features as well as the historical and neighborhood buildings that give this community its character.

A reception for the artist opens the exhibit at 6 p.m., July 4, at the gallery. For more information, call 334-3179.
