Chicken BBQ

TRAVERSE CITY — The Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church will hold their annual Chicken BBQ from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., on Saturday, June 28. The menu will include grilled chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, homemade desserts, Annie’s cherry whatchamacallit and lemonade and coffee.

Take outs are available. Free will donations will be accepted. The church is located at 16426 Center Road. For more information, call 223-4393.

History award ceremony

KINGSLEY — The Kingsley Friends of the Library will host the third annual Floyd Milton Webster Prize for History awards ceremony, beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 28, at the Kingsley Branch of the Traverse Area District Library, 213 S. Brownson.

Two writers will be awarded cash prizes; $1,000 to the winner of the 19 years and older group and $500 to the winner of 18 years or under. The public is invited.

Run for Shelter

The Run for Shelter 5k Run/Walk to Benefit the Goodwill Inn will be held at 9 a.m., on Saturday, June 28, beginning at Willow Hill Elementary School, 1250 Hill St. Dogs and kids are welcome.

Grass River benefit dance

ALDEN — The Grass River Natural Area will host a benefit dance featuring blues, funk, zydeco and jazz by “Steppin’ In It” from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday, June 28 at Alden Depot Park.

A variety of Short’s Brewing Company Beer, and wine from the Village Market will be available to purchase, along with Coney Island style hotdogs.

Tickets are $15 advance and $18 at the door, children under 12 are free and are now on sale online at www.GrassRiver.org, at Village Market in Rapid City and Elk Rapids or at the Grass River Natural Area Offices in Bellaire.
