Jazz at Sunset

TRAVERSE CITY — An evening of jazz classics, featuring the Jeff Haas Trio, will kick off Jazz at Sunset at Chateau Chantal from 7 to 9:30 p.m., Thursday, June 19. Special guest trumpeter Rob Smith will join saxophonist Laurie Sears, Jack Dryden on bass, and Andy Wheelock on drums.

Chateau Chantal is located at 15900 Rue De Vin on Old Mission Peninsula. Admission is free.

Knit in Public day

TRAVERSE CITY — The Bay Area Yarn Bomb Society will celebrate Worldwide Knit and Crochet in Public day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday June 21, in downtown Traverse City in the 100 block of Front Street, between Kilwin’s and Pangea’s. At 6 p.m., the group will move to the deck at Pangea’s.

The event will be held rain or shine, with indoor knitting and crocheting at Brilliant Books in case of rain.

Artist reception

LELAND — The Leelanau Community Cultural Center has named Richard Kooyman as Artist in Residence 2014 at the Old Art Building in Leland. An opening reception for his new works called “The ArtCamp Paintings” will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., on Friday, June 27.

The exhibit continues from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 28, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 29. Admission is free.

Pool meeting

TRAVERSE CITY — Friends of Easling Pool will host a community meeting in an effort to maintain and improve the community pool. The meeting will take place from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 23 at the Grand Traverse Civic Center. All are welcome.

Strawberry social

SOUTH BOARDMAN — East Boardman United Methodist Church will host a Strawberry Social on Friday, June 27.

Strawberry shortcake, ice cream, Sloppy Joes, sandwiches and beverages will be served from 5 to 8p.m. at the church, 2080 Boardman Road. There will also be handmade bazaar items and Rada cutlery for sale.
