Divine Mercy Sunday

GAYLORD — Divine Mercy Sunday, a day of thanksgiving for God’s goodness in the Easter mystery, will be observed on Sunday, April 7.

Sister Maria Faustina Kowalski, a sister of Our Lady of Mercy, at a convent in Plock, Poland, received a vision of Jesus on Feb. 22, 1931. He directed her to have the appearance of himself as the merciful Savior painted and venerated publicly and blessed on the first Sunday after Easter. Divine Mercy Sunday was named a feast day of the Catholic Church by Blessed John Paul II in 2000 at the canonization of St. Faustina.

Divine Mercy Holy Hour will start at 3 p.m. at St. Mary Cathedral. A bus will leave Traverse City at 1 p.m. from the St. Francis Catholic Church parking lot on South Union St. It will return to Traverse City by 7 p.m. Donations for gas and the driver are welcome. Billboards with the image of Jesus and an inspirational message, sponsored by the Divine Mercy Cenacle of Traverse City, are located on East Eighth Street and Cass Road.
