Art Park kick off

THOMPSONVILLE — Michigan Legacy Art Park will kick off summer with a "Fairies and Forts" event.

The event from 2 to 5 p.m. today, June 22, will feature creative projects, classic fairy tales, face painting and a march to the park's Fort led by Song of the Lakes percussionist Rick Jones.

Art Park admission is $5 for adults, free for children 17 and younger. Activities are free with park admission. For details, visit www.michlegacyartpark.org or call 378-4963.

At the Alden Library

ALDEN — Up coming events at the Alden District Library, 8751 Helena Road, include a used book sale starting Sunday, June 23, at 2 p.m. and continuing through 4 p.m. Thursday, June 28.

The library also will offer a "Dig Into Your Family Roots: Genealogy for Kids" program at 1 p.m. Monday, June 24, for children ages 9 to 13; and Wii Open Gaming for all ages at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 26. For details, call 331-4318.

Summer music

CHARLEVOIX — Summer music at the Charlevoix Public Library gets under way Sunday, June 23, with the Sunday Serenade series.

Sunday Serenades start at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, and Aug. 11 and 18. Performers play for an hour from the library balcony.

The SummerFolk Series kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 24, in the community room. Additional concerts will be held on July 29, Aug. 12 and 26, and Sept. 30. Each concert is followed by an open mic. Sign up starts at 6 p.m.

Jazz @ the Library starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 10. All concerts will be in the Children's Garden and listeners should bring their own seating. The series continues on July 17 and 31, and Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28.

Writing workshop
