Jazz Festival

TRAVERSE CITY — The Michigan Band and Orchestra Association and the Bay Area Big Band will host a District Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 9, at Lars Hockstad Auditorium in Central Grade School, 301 Seventh St.

High school performances are from 9:20 a.m. to noon. Admission is free. The Bay Area Big Band will perform from 1 to 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children, students and senior citizens, and $10 per family. They will be available at the door. For details, call 933-7570.

Edible Art Show

TRAVERSE CITY — Edible art will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, in the Mercato during the Village Indoor Farmers Market. Visitors may vote for their favorite edible art by purchasing tickets for $1 or one non-perishable food item near Tastes of Black Star Farms. Proceeds benefit the Father Fred Foundation.

Studio opening

TRAVERSE CITY — Milestones Music Studio will host a grand opening celebration Saturday, March 9.

The event will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at the studio’s new location in Logan’s Landing between Panda North and Ebb Tide Resale Shop. There will be Kindermusik activities for children, KidzArt projects, a poster contest and door prizes. There also will be performances by voice students, Simply Music Piano students, the Jazz Band from Fife Lake Schools and the band BoBossa. Visit for details.

Chamber concerts

CHARLEVOIX — The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra will give two performances of its “The Virtuoso Orchestra” concert.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the First Congregational Church of Charlevoix; 4 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at the First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Springs. Reserved seats are $35; general admission $20. Admission is free for students, children 18 and younger, military personnel and people with disabilities registered with VSA Arts of Michigan.
