FRANKFORT — “The Play,” an award-winning film from Turkey, will be presented Friday, March 8, by the Benzie Area Women’s History Project.
The film tells the story of nine peasant women living in a mountain village in southern Turkey who come together for different reasons to lighten the burden of life by creating a play.
The film will be shown at 7:30 p.m. at the Garden Theatre, 301 Main St. Admission is by donation; $10 is suggested. Proceeds will help support a scholarship for a non-traditional woman student at Northwestern Michigan College. For details, call 889-3156 or visit www.bawhp.org.
CADILLAC — The Gopherwood Concerts “Made in Michigan FUNdraiser” will feature a band of Michigan talent selected by Tiyi Schippers.
The concert will start at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Cadillac Elks Club, 122 S. Mitchell St. Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students at Toy Town. Tickets at the door are $12 for adults; $6 for students. For details, call Paul Brown, 846-8383.
CADILLAC — The Fonda Starr Band will play music for dancing at the Saturday, March 9, old-time country dance and square dance.
The dance will be hosted from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 9116 E. 13th St., next to Kiley Chiropractic. Free dance instruction will be provided and listeners are welcome.
Classical open mic
TRAVERSE CITY — Left Foot Charley will host an afternoon of classical music and wine on Sunday, March 10.
The “Bacchus and Bach” classical open mic will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at the winery, 806 Red Drive in the Village at Grand Traverse Commons. Classical musicians of all ages are welcome and should call 995-0500 in advance to secure a performance time slot.
