Book club lunch
Traverse City — Audrey Brown will be the guest speaker at the Monday, Jan. 14, luncheon meeting of the Village at Bay Ridge Book Club.
Brown is the mother of Margaret Mallory, an award-winning author of historical romance novels. She will discuss her daughter's work at 12:30 p.m. in the West Building dining room at the Village at Bay Ridge, 2950 Scenic Ridge Dr.

Benzonia — The Benzonia Academy Lecture Series will hold a three-week winter series titled "The Enlightenment: How Americans Think Like Americans."
Dr. Louis Yock, a former philosophy instructor at West Shore Community College, will present the series at 4 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 10, 17 and 24, at the Benzie Historical Museum, 6941 Traverse Ave. It will spotlight the critical thinkers of the Enlightenment include Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin. Each lecture is self-contained and deals with religion and politics.

Bay Film Series
Suttons Bay — The Bay Film Series continues with the documentary "5 Broken Cameras."
The firsthand account of non-violent resistance in Bil'in, a West Bank village threatened by encroaching Israeli settlements, will be shown at 2 and 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, and 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 14-15, at the Bay Theatre, 214 St. Joseph St. Non-subscribers are welcome; regular admission prices apply.

Cadillac — The Fonda Starr Band will perform for an old-time country and square dance from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at 9116 E. 13th St., next to Kiley Chiropractic. Free dance instruction will be provided. Donations are welcome.
Traverse City — The Bayside Travellers Dance Society will host a contra dance on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Twin Lakes Park, 6800 N. Long Lake Road.
