Book launch

TRAVERSE CITY — Aaron Stander will launch the seventh mystery in the Ray Elkins series, today, June 29, at Brilliant Books, 118 E. Front St.

Roycraft exhibit

FRANKFORT — The Oliver Arts Center has received exclusive permission to host an exhibition of paintings from northwest Michigan’s own American Watercolor Society (AWS) member, the late Roland Roycraft.

The show, titled Nature’s Light: The Talents and Techniques of Roland Roycraft, opens with a reception Sunday, June 30, at 2 p.m., and continues through July 27 at the Oliver Arts Center, 132 Coast Guard Road. It features never before exhibited works on loan from private collections. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Events in conjunction with Roycraft’s exhibit include a “Painting Without a Brush” class from 10 a.m. to noon Monday and Tuesday, July 8-9, with Stephanie Vallee, a former student of Roycraft; and a lecture from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, July 10, on Roycraft’s masking and pouring techniques featuring Vallee and Roycraft’s friend Jean Bowers.

Lake City Fourth

LAKE CITY — Lake City’s “Greatest 4th in the North” celebration kicks off Tuesday, July 2, and continues through Sunday, July 7.

Activities include a Battle of the Bands, a karaoke contest, a Grand Parade, beach volleyball, Children’s Day, a five-day carnival, a two-day craft show, free professional entertainment daily, fireworks and more.
