---- — n Air Force Staff Sgt. Beau Vore, an Air Force recruiter stationed in Traverse City and assigned to the 339th Recruiting Squadron, earned the American Legion’s Spirit of Service Award during The American Legion’s 95th National Convention in Houston. Vore earned the award for his devotion to his community and volunteer efforts.
Vore founded and managed a local food pantry, organizing food and clothing drives that raised more than $19,000 for needed goods; coordinated a car show raising more than $7,500 for the soldiers relief fund; led fund raisers for Winter Special Olympics that earned the praise of the president of the sports committee after more than $300,000 was contributed; and coordinated multiple drop off locations for a food drive that garnered more than $100,000.
He devoted much of his time to personal service, providing mentorship to 50 at-risk teens in a youth retreat with a local church and more than 200 hours at the Grand Traverse retirement center, providing companionship to elderly residents. He also spent time with hospitalized veterans at the Veteran Affairs hospital and provided more than 300 meals to the needy in the area.
