Oktoberfest

TRAVERSE CITY — The 4One Quartet headlines the entertainment for St. Michael’s Lutheran Church’s Oktoberfest.

The event will be hosted 3-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, under a tent at the church, 912 S. Garfield Ave. In addition to music, there will be a meal and children’s activities. Advance tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children and $30 for families. Tickets the day of the event are $12 for adults, $6 for children and $35 for families. School retirees

TRAVERSE CITY — Reservations are needed today, Oct. 4, for the next Grand Traverse Association of Retired School Personnel luncheon.

The chapter will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the West Bay Beach Resort-A Holiday Inn Resort, 615 E. Front St. The $14 cost includes the gratuity. For details or reservations, call 933-4269.

Benzie LWV forum

BENZONIA — The Benzie unit of LWV-GTA will present a forum on Friday Oct. 4, featuring Ted Curran.

Curran was a U.S. Foreign Service officer from 1956-1984. He served in Jordan and Yemen and was a member of the Iran Hostage Task Force in 1980. He also spent several years as the Deputy Ambassador in Afghanistan and Morocco.

The program will focus on Iran, its past relationship with the U.S. and the potential for longer-term relations in the context of the Syrian crisis. It will start at noon at the Benzonia Congregational Church on Barber Street. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Movie screening

TRAVERSE CITY — A new Community Cinema Series opens today, Oct. 3, with a 7 p.m. screening of “The Graduates/Los Graduados.”

The documentary explores the many roots of the Latino dropout crisis through the eyes of six students from across the U.S. who are part of an ongoing effort to increase graduation rates for a growing Latino population.

The film will be shown with captions in Milliken Auditorium at the Dennos Museum Center, 1410 College Dr. Admission is free and a panel discussion will follow the film. For details, visit http://www.dennosmuseum.org/events/community-cinema.html.
