Spring history

TRAVERSE CITY — The History Center of Traverse City, 322 Sixth St., will offer interactive educational programming on Wednesday, March 27.

The event includes four one-hour sessions starting at 10 a.m. with “How Did Traverse City Become Traverse City.” The day concludes with “Night at the Museum” from 5:45 to 8:15 p.m. featuring a tour of the center, pizza and a screening of the film “Night at the Museum.” Programming is geared toward ages 7 to 14. The cost is $7 per session or $25 for the day. Students spending the day should bring a lunch.

Dr. Seuss party

THOMPSONVILLE — The Betsie Valley District Library will celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday with a “Cat in the Hat” party.

TRAVERSE CITY — “Island President” is the next film in the Community Cinema Series at the Dennos Museum Center, 1410 College Dr.

The 2011 documentary follows President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives, the low-lying nation threatened by rising sea levels, as he fights to keep his homeland from disappearing into the sea.

The movie will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in Milliken Auditorium at the Dennos Museum Center. Discussion will follow. Admission is free and the Dennos Museum Center will offer free admission from 5 to 8 p.m.

GED Testing

TRAVERSE CITY — General Education Development (GED) testing will be offered Monday and Tuesday, April 8-9, at Central High School, 1150 Milliken Dr.

To qualify for the GED test, individuals must have been out of a regular school program for one year or their class must have graduated. Participants must pre-register at the CHS Principal’s office prior to the chosen test date and must be able to attend both dates to take the complete GED.
