Ash Wednesday

LELAND — Leland United Methodist Church will host a soup supper and a service of ashes today, Feb. 13.

The free meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. at the church, 106 N. Fourth St., followed at 6:30 p.m. by the Ash Wednesday service. For details, call 256-9161.

Valentine show

BOYNE CITY — Singer-songwriters Jetty Rae, Jan Krist and Robin Lee Berry, will perform in a round robin format as Freshwater Concerts presents The Valentines' Show at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16. Glenn Wolf will accompany on bass with Norm Wheeler on fluegelhorn and Alan Finkbiener on hand drums and Ruby Williams will open.

Hors d'oeuvres, plus some chocolates and caramels from "Three Bears Chocolates" will be available. There will not be a wine tasting but you are welcome to bring your own wine.

Shiver by the River

FRANKFORT — The fifth annual Shiver by the River will take place Saturday, Feb. 16.

The event opens at 9 a.m. with the Betsie Bay Frozen 5K and Children's Fun Run. There also will be a parade, frozen bowling, an antique snowmobile display, horse-drawn carriage rides and more. Lions' breakfast

EMPIRE — The Empire Lions Club will hold a fund-raising pancake breakfast on Sunday, Feb. 17.

The meal will be served from 8 a.m. to noon at the Empire Town Hall and is part of Empire Winterfest. The cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 7-12, and free for children 6 and younger.

Fiber arts club

TRAVERSE CITY — Peninsula Community Library patrons working on knitting or other fiber art projects are invited to bring a current project and spend time with fellow crafters.
