---- — Forestry workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — Early registration closes Thursday, April 10, for a Forestry Assistance Program workshop for area forest landowners.

The workshop will meet from 1:30-5 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the Boardman River Nature Center, 1450 Cass Road. It will cover defense practices to help maintain and promote healthy growth and form so trees can ward off the effects of insect and disease outbreaks. Participants will receive information to help identify, understand the risks and decide on the best management options for their forest and landscape trees. They also are encouraged to bring a sample or a photo of a tree of concern for treatment recommendations.

The cost is $10 if registered by April 10; $15 at the door. For details or to register, call the Leelanau Conservation District office, 256-9783.

Wagbo open house

EAST JORDAN — Martha Wagbo Farm and Education Center, 5745 N. M-66, will host a family-friendly Maple Syrup Open House.

The free celebration will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, with syrup tastings, maple treats, Sugar Shack tours, nature hikes to the Sugarbush, a petting zoo, children’s activities, mini-workshops, a traditional Easter Egg Hunt, music and more. Fibromyalgia support

TRAVERSE CITY — The Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue Support Group will meet from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in dining room #2 of the Munson Medical Center cafeteria, 1105 Sixth St. Family and friends are welcome.

Raptor program

TRAVERSE CITY — Raptor rehabilitator Rebecca Lessard from Wings of Wonder will give a program on birds of prey on Saturday, April 12, at the East Bay Branch Library, 1989 Three Mile Road.

Ugly Dress Party

ELK RAPIDS — The fifth annual Ugly Dress Party will be hosted Tuesday, April 15, at the Vasquez Hacienda, 11324 U.S. 31.

The charity event starts at 9 p.m. There is a $5 charge at the door and there will be door prizes and a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds will benefit the Women’s Resource Center in Traverse City.

Zonta scholarship

TRAVERSE CITY — The Zonta Club of Traverse City is accepting applications for the Ann Mapes Scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a woman who is a college junior or senior enrolled in a state accredited college, a university program at the University Center, or NMC’s baccalaureate program and studying toward a degree in business, science, maritime, aviation, culinary or nursing leading to career employment.

Neighborhood meeting

TRAVERSE CITY — The next meeting of the Grand Traverse Neighborhood will be held Tuesday, April 15. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month except for December.

The meeting is from 6-8 p.m. at the Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency, 3963 Three Mile Road. The goal is to help connect one another to community resources to improve quality of life and move out of the cycle of poverty.
