Meditation workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Mindfulness Meditation Group will host a workshop for anyone interested in learning meditation.

The workshop will meet from 2:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation building, 6726 Center Road. It will be led by guest teacher Soto Zen priest Sokuzan Bob Brown. There is no charge, but donations are appreciated.

Cottage Coffee

TRAVERSE CITY — The next Cottage Coffee program will be held Tuesday, April 8.

George Gregory, president of the Historical Society of Northwest Michigan, will talk about collecting railroad memorabilia at 10 a.m. at Hawthorn Cottage at the Grand Traverse Pavilions off South Elmwood Avenue. The program is free and open to the public. For details, call 932-3027 or visit

Book club meets

ALDEN — The Books and Brie Book Club will meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at the Helena Township Community Center, 8751 Helena Road, to discuss the non-fiction book “Zeitoun” by Dave Eggers. New members are welcome. Call the Alden District Library, 331-4318, to learn more.

Meals on Wheels benefit

TRAVERSE CITY — The community is invited to a “Sip and Dab” fundraiser to help Meals on Wheels provide hot, nutritious meals for homebound senior citizens in the Grand Traverse area.

Attendees will be able to paint, sip, eat and have fun from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at North Peak Brewery, 400 W. Front St. For details or reservations, visit or call 633-3316.

‘Hamlet’ auditions

TRAVERSE CITY — Riverside Shakespeare Company will hold auditions on Saturday, April 12, for its upcoming production of “Hamlet.”

Auditions will be held from 1-3 p.m. at the Old Town Playhouse, 148 E. Eighth St. Auditioners will be asked to read from scenes from “Hamlet” and have a monologue prepared or memorized from any Shakespeare play. Rehearsals start Thursday, May 1.
