Scary pool party

EAST JORDAN — The East Jordan Community Pool, 101 Maple St., is holding a Halloween Pool Party Saturday, Oct. 19.

The event will be held from 5-7 p.m. with an open swim, floating pumpkins, a Halloween Cupcake contest, refreshments, drawings and more. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children. For details, call 536-2250.

Red Ribbon Week

KINGSLEY — The Rock of Kingsley, 115 E. Blair St., invites the community to take a stand against drugs during National Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 21-26.

Red Ribbon Week activities kick off during the sixth-12th grade after-school program from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21. On Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. the public is invited to a screening of the PG-13 documentary “Bully.” Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. A Halloween Costume Party from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, for sixth through 12th graders will close the week of activities.

Fresh Water class

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College’s Extended Education will offer a three-week class focusing on critical Great Lakes and water-related issues.

“All Things Fresh Water” will meet from 1-3 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 21-Nov. 4. It will be co-taught by Hans VanSumeren, M.S.E.-naval architecture and marine engineering, director of the Great Lakes Water Studies Institute at NMC, and Constanza Haselwood, Ph.D, education and outreach coordinator for the Institute.

Fall Trunk Show

TRAVERSE CITY — A portion of the sales during Grand Traverse Ophthalmology Clinic’s annual Fall Trunk Show will benefit local organizations.

The trunk sale will be held Thursday Oct. 24, at GTOC, 929 Business Park Dr. A percentage of proceeds from the event will benefit C.H.A.P., Hickory Hills and Special Olympics. Donations of non-perishable food items for the Father Fred Foundation also will be accepted.
