Church speaker

BENZONIA — Harold Smith, CEO of Christianity Today, will be the guest speaker at Fresh Wind Christian Community’s 10 a.m. worship service today, Oct. 6. The church meets in the auditorium at Benzie Central High School on Homestead Road. The church provides a nursery and Windy Kids Ranch for children age 4 to 12.

College Night

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District and the Great Lakes Maritime Academy will host College Night on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

High school students and their families can meet with representatives of public and private colleges, universities and military service organizations from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Hagerty Conference Center, 715 E. Front St. Northwestern Michigan College also will present financial aid workshops and programs featuring some of its specialized areas of study.

Art auction, lunch

INTERLOCHEN — Northern Experessions Decorative Artists will hold its 12th annual Seasons of Love Auction and Luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Fall gallery tour

LEELANAU COUNTY — Fall for Art, an annual self-guided Leelanau County art gallery tour, will offer participants a chance to sample the variety of arts in the county.

Fall for Art will be held from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11-12; and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13. Participating galleries include The Secret Garden and Sleeping Bear Gallery, Empire; Glen Arbor Art Association, Glen Lake Artists Gallery, Forest Gallery and Synchronicity Gallery, Glen Arbor; Gallery in Cedar, Cedar; Main St. Gallery, Leland; Leelanau Prints and Northport Pottery, Northport; and Gallery 22, Suttons Bay.

Participants may pick up an entry packet at any of the participating galleries and have it stamped at each gallery they visit. Entrants who’ve completed the tour may participate in a prize drawing and reception at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at Lake Street Studios, 6023 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor.

Fiber Festival

LELAND — Quilt artist Sarah Bearup-Neal will be the featured artist at the 13th annual Fiber Festival. She approaches the quilt as an art form and works from original ideas in a non-representational, contemporary style.

The event will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Old Art Building, 111 Main St. Other artists will display wearable art, textiles, weaving, art quilts, fiber sculpture, knits and yarns. Admission is free. For details, visit or call 256-2131.
