Raw Foods program

ELK RAPIDS — Raw food expert Susan Summers from Oryana Natural Foods, will explain the preparation, philosophy and health benefits of eating raw foods at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at the Elk Rapids Library, 300 Isle of Pines. For details or to reserve space, call 264-9979.

LIWdA meets

GLEN ARBOR — The Leelanau Independent Women for democratic Action (LIWdA) will meet Tuesday, April 9.

The meeting starts at 4 p.m. at the Leelanau School, 1 Old Homestead Road. Guest speakers are Steve Wade, executive director of United Way of Northwest Michigan, and April Missias, director of Leelanau County Senior Services. The program is free and open to the public. Call 642-1391 to learn more.

Empty Bowls event

TRAVERSE CITY — The annual Empty Bowls event celebrates its 10th anniversary on Sunday, April 14.

The fundraiser supports the Fresh Food Partnership, a nonprofit "farm to pantry" program that works to buy locally-grown fresh produce and distribute it to food pantries, community meals programs and shelters in northwest Michigan.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hagerty Center, 715 E. Front St. For a $15 contribution, attendees enjoy a soup and bread lunch, live music, a silent auction, and a handmade bowl to keep.

Tickets are on sale in Traverse City at Oryana Natural Foods Market, 260 E. 10th St., and the Land Information Access Association, 324 Munson Ave. Tickets also are available at the door. Marketing your art

BELLAIRE — The next Art, Film, Philosophy program will focus on business and marketing for artists.

The presentation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at the Bellaire Community Hall, 202 N. Bridge St. John T. Unger will share insights on how he used creative marketing to build a successful art career.
