Beer-inspired art is on display

BELLAIRE — Parkside Arts Council is celebrating Short’s Brewing Company’s 10th Anniversary Bash by sponsoring a “Beer Inspired Art” show.

All mediums are welcome. Artists should drop off their entries Wednesday, April 9, through Friday, April 11. There is a $15 entry fee. Youth art classes being offered

KINGSLEY — Free art introduction classes for students in sixth through 12th grade will be offered at The Rock of Kingsley, 115 E. Blair St.

“Art Rocks” classes in mixed media collage with instructor Beth Bynum meet at 4 p.m Wednesdays, March 26, and April 9, 16 and 30. Students should be committed to the series and on time for all classes. For details, call 263-7000.

Nutrition and cooking class

TRAVERSE CITY — Food for Life certified instructor Sherry Davis will offer a four-class series titled “Cancer Prevention & Survival Nutrition and Cooking.”

The series opens Thursday, March 27, with an “Introduction to How Foods Fight Cancer,” and continues on Thursdays through April 17. All classes meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at 740 Centre Place, and include a cooking demonstration, food tasting, nutritional information, recipes to take home and the use of a loaner book.

Workshop on broiler chickens

BELLAIRE — ISLAND will sponsor the second workshop in its “Chickens 101” series.

“Starting and Growing Broiler Chickens” will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at the Bellaire Community Hall, 202 N. Bridge St. Participants will learn how to grow nutritious and ethical protein and how to keep birds healthy and safe from predators. They also will be introduced to ISLAND’s Chicken Coupe, an MDA certified mobile poultry processing unit.
