---- — Roller Derby birthday

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Roller Derby will host a Birthday Bash and Silent Auction today, March 8.

The celebration starts at 6 p.m. at InsideOut Gallery, 229 Garland St. There will be appetizers, a DJ, a cash bar featuring a special Toxic Cherry cocktail and the silent auction. A $5 donation at the door will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan. For details, visit the TCRD Facebook page.

Safety program

TRAVERSE CITY — Meredith Hawes, safety officer with the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department, will give a seminar on fall prevention and fire safety twice on Tuesday, March 11, at the Village at Bay Ridge, 3850 Scenic Ridge.

The program will be offered at 11 a.m. in the East Building dining room and at 12:30 p.m. in the West Building dining room. There is no charge and the public is welcome. Call 932-9455 to learn more.

Family Arts Night

TRAVERSE CITY — The Greenspire School will host a Family Arts Night on Tuesday, March 11.

Activities that combine art and science will be offered from 5-7 p.m. for students ages 9 and older at the school, 1026 Red Dr. The event is co-sponsored by Blackbird Arts. For details, visit www.greenspireschool.org.

Cottage Coffee

TRAVERSE CITY — Rose Hutchinson, retired Air Force chief master sergeant, is the guest speaker at the Tuesday, March 11, Cottage Coffee.

Hutchinson’s program, “My Life Serving Our Country,” starts at 10 a.m. at the Grand Traverse Pavilions off South Elmwood Avenue. Hutchinson will discuss her professional experience attending the president on Air Force One.

CNA info night

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College will offer an eight-week certification preparation program for prospective Certified Nurse Assistants and invites anyone interested in the program to a free information session on Wednesday, March 12.

The training program starts Wednesday, April 9, and continues through June 8. It will give students the knowledge and skills needed to take the Michigan Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation Test.

The information session will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. in room 212 at NMC’s University Center on Dendrinos Drive off Cass Road. Program information and applications will be available. Nurses group meets

TRAVERSE CITY — The ANA-Michigan, Northern Region (formerly RN-AIM) will meet Thursday, March 13.

The group will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. in rooms A and B at Munson Community Health Center, 550 Munson Ave. Linda Hutchinson, outreach and enrollment specialist and certified application counselor with NW Michigan Health Services Inc., will give an update on NW Michigan Health Services. All nurses and student nurses are welcome.

Oryana food drive

TRAVERSE CITY — Oryana Natural Foods Market is collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations for distribution to area families in temporary housing situations or families that have been placed in new housing.

Donations may be dropped off at Oryana, 260 E. 10th St., through March. Food donations may be placed in the designated bin near the cash registers. Cash donations may be made at the check out and will be used to purchase fresh produce and other perishables. The food will be distributed to families through the Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency.
