Art exhibition

LELAND — The Leelanau Artists at the Old Art Building, 111 Main St., will host their 13th Annual Exhibition.

The opening reception is from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 31. The exhibit will continue on Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is invited.

Headstone dedication

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse Area Genealogical Society received a grant from the Zonta Club of Traverse City to provide a headstone on the grave of Dr. Augusta Rosenthal-Thompson and her son Jackie. A graveside dedication ceremony will be held Saturday, June 1.

Dr. Rosenthal-Thompson was Traverse City’s first female physician and one of the first women to graduate from the University of Michigan Medical School in the 1880s. Her headstone will be dedicated at 11 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery. The public is invited.

Senior trip

GRAYLING — The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center will sponsor a trip to the Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids.

The bus will leave at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, and will return to Grayling by 6 p.m. The $65 cost includes an indoor guided tour and outside tram tour, lunch in the cafe and a buffet dinner at Burke’s Waterfront Restaurant in Cadillac.

Garden resources

TRAVERSE CITY — Michigan State University Extension offers a variety of free resources for home gardeners based on science performed at MSU and other land grant universities.

Two websites featuring research-based information on all aspects of gardening are www.msue.msu.edu/gardening or www.migarden.msu.edu. Gardeners can find articles on topics of interest, events and opportunities for web-based education and instructions on how to “Ask an Expert” questions. MSUE’s Home Gardening news also may be sent as an email digest by looking for the link to sign up for these weekly updates. There also is a link with the latest information on becoming a Master Gardener. Soil tests also may be ordered from the websites.
