BENZONIA — The Benzonia Academy Lecture Series will continue with a three-part lecture by Dr. Louis Yock.

“Influences and Impact: 19th Century American Theology and the Denominations of the United States” will be presented at 4 p.m. on consecutive Thursdays, Jan. 9, 16 and 23, at the Benzie Area Historical Museum, 6941 Traverse Ave. Yock will examine and explain the terminology, philosophy and theology found among Christians in the late colonial and early republican period of U.S. history.

OM history group

TRAVERSE CITY — Jack and Georgia Holman will give a program titled “Five Generations on This Peninsula” at the Thursday, Jan. 9, meeting of the Old Mission Peninsula Historical Society.

Kids’ bird class

BELLAIRE — Grass River Natural Area will offer a bird class designed for young birders.

The class will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the natural area, 6500 Alden Highway. Participants will learn to identify common winter birds, what they eat and where they live in the winter.

WSH dinner

TRAVERSE CITY — The West Senior High School staff will host a spaghetti dinner on Thursday, Jan. 16, to raise money for scholarships to be awarded in the spring to graduating seniors.

The meal will be served from 5-7 p.m. in the WSH Commons Area, 5376 N. Long Lake Road. The cost is $7 for adults, $5 for ages 5 to 12, free for ages 4 and younger, and $25 for families of five or more. The Trojan vs. Titan basketball game follows the meal.

Musicale auditions

TRAVERSE CITY — Grand Traverse Musicale will hold scholarship auditions for band, orchestra, piano, voice, and guitar students in classical pursuit.

Students in grades six to 11 are eligible to audition for scholarships which are to be used to further musical abilities, lessons, camp or instruments.

Auditions will be held at the First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Road, from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, for students in ninth through 11th grades; 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, for sixth through eighth graders; and 10 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, for students in grades nine through 11.
