---- — Vasa Pasta Dinner

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central and West Senior high schools' Nordic ski teams will host a Vasa Pasta pre-race dinner today, Feb. 7, at Timber Ridge Resort, 4050 Hammond Road East.

The meal will be served from 5-8 p.m. in the banquet facility adjacent to the Vasa Race packet pick-up in the main lodge. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and younger. This is an annual fundraiser for both Nordic ski teams.

Microbrew and Music fest

TRAVERSE CITY — The Winter Microbrew & Music Festival will be held Saturday, Feb. 8.

Activities take place from 4-10 p.m. at the Farmer's Market lots on Union Street at Grandview Parkway. Early Bird festivities start at 3 p.m. For tickets or details, visit Tickets also are available at Oryana Natural Foods Market and both High Five Threads locations.

Organ recital

INTERLOCHEN — The organ studio of Thomas Bara will present the first Chapel Organ Recital of the 2013-14 academic year at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in the Dendrinos Chapel and Recital Hall at Interlochen Center for the Arts. The recital is free and open to the public.

Ballet excerpts

TRAVERSE CITY — Dancers from the Northwest Michigan Ballet Theatre will present excerpts from "Deirdre: A Celtic Tale" on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave.

Portions of the medieval Irish folk legend choreographed by Thomas Morrell will be presented at 11 a.m. The full-length ballet will be staged at Milliken Auditorium, 1410 College Dr., at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, and at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15.

Predator program

BELLAIRE — Grass River naturalists will give a program on Michigan predators that don't migrate or hibernate on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Back Porch music

CHARLEVOIX — Gordon Howie will be the featured performer at the Saturday, Feb. 8, Back Porch Coffeehouse.

Howie will perform from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Charlevoix Senior Center building, the corner of Carpenter and Sheridan streets. A circle music jam follows. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. A $5-$10 donation at the door is suggested and includes refreshments. Proceeds benefit the featured performer. For details, call 622-2944.

Earthwork music

TRAVERSE CITY — Northern Natural Cider House will host Earthwork Music Mondays during February.

Musicians scheduled to perform from 7-9 p.m. are Sam Corbin, Feb. 10; True Falsettos, Feb. 17; and Dede Alderman, Feb. 24.

Fight heart disease

TRAVERSE CITY — As part of American Heart Month, Munson Medical Center with offer "Heart to Heart" screenings for both women and men.

One-on-one screenings will be available the weeks of Feb. 10 and 17 by appointment at Munson Community Health Center, 550 Munson Ave. Participants will leave with a personalized action plan for improving heart health.

Slabtown meeting

Valentine's concert

INTERLOCHEN — Dominic Fortuna will give a Valentine's concert on Thursday, Feb. 13.

The concert will follow the noon meal at the Golden Fellowship Hall, 9700 Riley Road, next to the Interlochen Public Library. Lunch reservations are required 24 hours in advance; call 922-4911. The meal and concert are sponsored by the Senior Center Network.

'Wizard of Oz' tickets

TRAVERSE CITY — Tickets are on sale for St. Francis High School's production of "The Wizard of Oz."

Performances are at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Feb. 15-16 and Feb. 21-22; with matinees at 2 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 16 and 23, at the high school on East 11th Street. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students ages 18 and younger and senior citizens 65 and older.

TRAVERSE CITY — All intermediate and advanced area artists are invited to participate in the third annual "Perspective-Art Exhibit" at Bay Pointe Community Church.

The theme for the juried exhibit is "Community-What's Your Connection." Art should be submitted between Monday, Feb. 24, and Friday, Feb. 28, at the church, 6880 Secor Road. All media are welcome and there is an entry free of $25 for up to three entries. An opening reception will be hosted at 6 p.m. Friday, March 14.
