BEULAH — The Friends of the Darcy Library of Beulah Cookie and Book Sale continues from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Beulah Trailhead Building. Cookies are $6 per pound and books are priced from 50 cents to $5. For details, call the library, 882-4037.

Trains swap meet

TRAVERSE CITY — A swap meet for train buffs will be held at the History Center of Traverse City, 322 Sixth St., in conjunction with the opening of the Festival of Trains.

Model train items may be purchased from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. For details, visit www.traversehistory.org.

Children’s film

LELAND — A children’s short film featuring Dreamworks’ favorite ogre putting his spin on holiday traditions will be shown Saturday at the Old Art Building, 111 Main St.

The doors open at 12:45 p.m. with an appearance by Santa Claus. The film is free with special prices on popcorn and soft drinks. It is sponsored in collaboration with the Leland Chamber of Commerce’s Holiday Wonderland.

‘Angel’ luncheon

TRAVERSE CITY — The Women’s Fellowship of First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Road, will host its annual Christmas Angel Luncheon on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

The luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the church will feature entertainment by the West Senior High School Choral-Aires. Tickets are $10 each and reservations can be made by calling the church office, 947-6698.

Program on Earhart

TRAVERSE CITY — Larry Inman, a local expert on American aviator Amelia Earhart, will share his research and artifacts in a presentation on Monday, Dec. 16.

Inman will discuss “The Amazing Life of Amelia Earhart” at 10:30 a.m. at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center. The public is welcome. Admission is free, however reservations are encouraged. For details or reservations, call the Senior Center Network, 922-4911.

Leelanau Players

LELAND — The Leelanau Players will stage Alan Tricker’s “Charles Dickens and a Christmas Carol” on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 19-20.

The dramatized reading starts at 7:30 p.m. each night at the Old Art Building, 111 Main St. The doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 11 and younger and senior citizens 65 and older. Christmas meal

TRAVERSE CITY — Plans are being finalized for the 24th annual Community Christmas Dinner and donations of time, food and money are still being accepted.

The meal will be served from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1003 S. Maple St. Meal delivery starts at 11:15 a.m. For details, to volunteer or make a donation, to arrange for meal delivery or to share the names of shut-ins or those who will be alone on the holiday, call Gwen Stokes, 409-2894. Crouter art exhibit

ELK RAPIDS — An “All Anni Crouter” art exhibit and sale is open at Twisted Fish Gallery, 10443 S. Bayshore Drive.

Breakfast forum

LAKE CITY — The next Good Morning Lake City public forum will be held from 7-8 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at the Missaukee County EMS Building on First Street. Encore Winds

TRAVERSE CITY — Encore Winds will celebrate Christmas with three different concerts, ballet performances, a Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale, and more.

“Sparkle and Wonder” will be presented on Saturday, Dec. 21, at Lars Hockstad Auditorium in Central Grade School, 301 Seventh St. A Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale will be held from 2-8 p.m. Performances of the children’s classic “Peter and the Wolf” start at 3 and 8 p.m. narrated by Ron Jolly and featuring Encore Winds and members of the Northwest Michigan Ballet Theatre. Tenor Scott Carter will lead a Christmas sing-along and a free Tuba Christmas concert will start at 7 p.m., also at Lars Hockstad Auditorium.

Jingle Bell 5K

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Track Club’s non-competitive Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk will be held Sunday, Dec. 22.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Park Place Hotel Dome, 300 E. State St. Registration on the day of the event will be held from 4:30-5:15 p.m. at the Park Place Dome. Registration is $15 until Friday, Dec. 20; $20 the day of the event. Participants also are asked to bring non-perishable food items for the ACTS Food Pantry in Acme.

Solstice concert

PETOSKEY — The eighth annual Blissfest Winter Solstice Concert will be held Saturday, Dec. 21.

The concert starts at 7 p.m. at the Emmet Country Fairgrounds. The doors open at 5 p.m., with a pre-concert winter feast and potluck at 5:30 p.m. Featured performers include the Crane Wives, Kellerville and Earthwork recording artists Seth and May, with special guests Rachel, Dominic and Josh Davis. Local artists Dr. Goodhart and the Home Remedy and Kirby also will perform.

Advance tickets for adults are $15 for Blissfest members; $20 non-members. Student tickets are $5 for Blissfest members; $8 non-members. Children 12 and younger are free.
