n Western Michigan fruit growers having apples that are sufficiently good to warrant being displayed are urged to make entries for the many prizes offered in connection with the second Michigan Land and Apple show in Grand Rapids November 12 - 16. Among the premiums offered is $5 for the largest perfect apple, $3 for the most attractive apple, $10 for the best box of Baldwins and $15 for the most attractive barrel.

n Fred Atkinson, representing the Potato Implement Co., has returned from an extended trip through the east and the south. While in New York, he witnessed the great naval parade.

n A mysterious fire occurred at the state prison in Jackson early last Wednesday and despite the efforts of the fire department and the police combined, the binder twine warehouse was completely destroyed. A full investigation is underway.

n Mrs. John Greilick and little Miss Francis Henderson returned Saturday from Grand Rapids where they have been visiting Mrs. Markham. They enjoyed several social gatherings while in that city.

n A. Sayers came down to North Paradise from Fife Lake today with a load of lumber. He is making preparations for moving back on his farm this month. The folks are pleased to have him and his family with them again as they have been greatly missed this past summer.

n Anthony Nink and Katie McGill, both residents at Long Lake, were married last Tuesday morning at the West Side Catholic church in this city, Father Sheehan officiating. The bride was dressed in white material over white silk with hat to match. After the ceremony, the wedding attendees drove out to the home of the bride where a wedding dinner was served.

n Mrs. Drescher, who lives near Grawn, leaves for Petoskey today. Mr. Drescher will follow in a few days as soon as the new P. M. agent arrives. They will be missed in the church work at Grawn but the parishioners at their church in Petoskey will be the new beneficiaries of their time and talents.

n The potato buyers are paying a good price of 25 cents a bushel for potatoes. The farmers are busy digging them and bringing their buckwheat and beans alongside to market.

n Conrade Byron Lowell, of Hyde Park, Boston who has been rooming at I. G. Winnie's for the past few weeks, decided to go out on the peninsula the other day and pick apples for Mrs. Bubhan. Monday afternoon, when an extension ladder on which he was standing, tipped off the limb on which it rested and threw him to the ground injuring his right shoulder and arm.

n The Grand Traverse District Ministerial Association is meeting at the Asbury Methodist Episcopal church of which Rev. W. J. Coates is pastor. This association covers a district of 17 churches, Rev. W. F. Kendrick of this city being the district superintendent.

n Bloodhounds were taken to Elmira this morning to trail an unknown madman who chased a family from their residence, burned their home and killed their livestock. The village is aroused at the danger and fear other repredations.

n Advice on deportment. Neither married or unmarried ladies should leave the ballroom alone.

n Medical advice of a century ago. Cleanliness is the first requisite in the management of the hair. There is no danger that the scalp will be washed too often.
